No it doesn't update from the satellites. Something screwy is going on with

So there's no other way the firmware would get updated except via the
web updater?

I did a software update a few weeks ago. I'm wondering if it got staged
somewhere in the unit but never got applied for some reason. Is there
something you need to do after using the web updater to make the changes
permanent? If not that I may need to place a call to Garmin. The unit
should still be under warranty. It's only 6 months old.

I have a Nuvi 200 as well and I noticed the same thing in the car a few days
after I used web updater. I don't have an explanation but it seems to be a
"feature". I have not seen it since - now several months later.
