Garmin is trying to give users a free limited time offer
of a 1-time update to download and install
a more current/recent map for your GPS,
and you want to treat it like an entitlement....

No, I don't want to be lied to by Garmin tech support. You apparently
missed that part.

Seems pretty clear to me -
Garmin is offering you within 60 days of turning on your GPS
a current and up to date map.... one free spin within the 60 days of GPS
turn on.

But then,
I'm just reading it as some common sense offering to get my GPS up to the
current map....

Guess that's where we differ.....

Then you missed a very large portion of the post. On the first unit
after having problems and calling tech support the tech promised to
call me back 2 days later. I NEVER received that phone call. On the
second unit after purchasing well past the point that new maps had
already been out the tech promised me that I would be able to wait and
update with the next update and then later sent an email recanting his
promise. While on the phone he assured me several times that I would
be able to wait and even gave me his name, phone number and extension
in case I should have any trouble once the newer update came out. The
guarantee itself is worded ambiguously and implies that as long as I
register within 60 days of acquiring satellites I will receive a free
map update. It says that I must REGISTER, it doesn't say that I must
UPDATE within 60 days. Common sense tells me that many people just let
bullshit like this slide and that is why manufacturers get away with
it. I bought a BRAND SPANKING NEW UNIT WHICH SHOULD HAVE ALREADY HAD
THE MOST CURRENT MAPS ON IT. That would be common sense to me at
least. Instead I received a unit which has outdated maps and am having
to use the promised free update just to get the damn thing current.

From the quote that ps56k gave,
"you'll be able to see if a free map update is available".

Seems to me that there's a chance that you'll see that NONE is available
:-)

So I would tend to agree with you, who asked.

It is, at least, a bit ambiguous.
