One great thing: Nuvi uses SD cards, not proprietary Garmin cards.
Bravo, Garmin, and thanks for listening.

Why? I don't see "Globalsat" as Garmin's competition; I've never seen
'em in a store at all. Magellan, on the other hand...
(Do you work for these guys? You seem a wee bit obsessed with them.)

Whenever I see a product like this one, I feel bad for the engineers.
One thing I've learned is that a cool product is only part of the
battle; you need marketing, a sales channel, support, etc. Maybe these
guys should be OEMing to Dell or HP?

Multifunction is good, as long as it doesn't compromise the base
functionality, and as long as each function is complete. (I've never
seen a PPC-based music player that's even close to the iPod, for
example.)

Thank goodness. Most folks I know who have Garmins never bought other
cards, though.

Um, someone who wants an excellent car navigation system?

Absolutely. I'm still using my SP-III with good results. The 2610
would work at least as well .. and, given I have six 1 GB CF cards, lots
more map coverage.

Were I Garmin (or Magellan) that'd be my concern - Sony/Ericsson
starting from the 3G phone could eat most of the cheap GPS market (along
with the cheap digital camera, MP3 player, and PDA markets).

I'm more worried about the 'can't field replace batteries' aspect of
most modern phones .. Li-ION built in batteries are a PITA for several
oft he applications (actually including 'mobile phone' IMO)
