Am about to purchase City Navigator North America NT 2010.
It comes with MapSource 6.15, which I am told has a different format than
previous versions.
Here is a review of it from GPSCity:

*It doesn't tell you when loading the new maps that it will automatically
upgrade Mapsource to the newest version. For all those that don't like the
new Mapsource format, you can't use an older version of Mapsource with the
2010 NT maps*

Is that true? I have a copy of MS 6.13, which I thought I could use if I
didn't like the latest version
Thanks!

Garmin would prefer that you mind your own business and not mess with
things that are aren't any of your business. :>)

That said, here is a method for preserving your install of 6.13.7 and
still having it available after any number of gratuitous, unwarned,
unwanted, unneeded, rammed down your throat spontaneously by Garmin,
upgrades. I copied this information from this newsgroup, the link to it
has expired and I've lost track of who posted it. But I offer my thanks
anonymously for it. The following procedures are accomplished from
Windows Explorer:

////Quoted material follows////
Before updating to 6.14.1 find your Garmin folder and double click on it.

Off to the right in an open white space right click and under new click
create a new folder. I then named this mapsource_old.exe.

Find the MapSource exe which has the globe before it and right click on
it and click copy.

Then move over to the new folder you created and right click on it and
click on paste. Now the 6.13.7 exe file is in this folder.

I then doulble clicked this folder to open up to see the 6.13.7 exe file
and renamed it to MapSource 6.13.7.

Then I right clicked on this file and created a short cut for it on my
desktop.

Now when I updated to 6.14.1 I still can click on the old 6.13.7 exe and
open MapSource to this version.

Then install 6.14.1 and you will have two different icons to click on.
One on your desktop with globe before it for 6.13.7 and the one with a 4
section square for 6.14.1.

You can open these 2 versions at the same time and compare them.

Hi Jack,

allow me to add one important piece of information: Mapsource 6.13.7
cannot read the new file format of CN 2010 (at least not CN Europe
2010).
Still, on Javawa GPS-Tools
(http://www.javawa.nl/cne2009_multilang_de.html ) you can download the
MapReverseConverter (inclusive MapSource 6.13.7) that converts the new
file format into the old one Mapsource 6.13.7 can understand.
Unfortunately for you this page is in German, but you only need to
download the file
http://cid-d14be435bc6f644b.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/public/MapReverseConverterENU.exe
plus the language English file
http://cid-d14be435bc6f644b.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/public/ENU.zip ,
and then run the program. After the conversion has completed, you can
delete the original NT 2010 data.

HIH

Mike

Thank you, gentlemen!
I had a hunch that there might be a map file structure issue. It reminds me
of Microsoft Access versions.
In theory, any modifications, updates, etc. are *supposed* to be backward
compatible. In this case that MS 6.15 should be able to read older map
files like Metroguide v7. (which I use with 6.13.7 for my 76s)

Now I don't know---maybe there are serious compatibility issues. In view of
what you gentlemen have related, I will definitely run parallel
programming-- 6.13.7 + MGNA for the 76s and a try with 6.15 + 2010 on the
76csx.

If I discover anything, I will share it!
Thanks
