Garmin wants $150 to replace a Quest or Quest2 battery. I thought this
was a bit unreasonable. Doing a Google search on replacing the battery
sent me to some alternate batteries, but in the process, I found a
supplier that will sell the direct replacement,

http://www.batteryship.com/

Scroll down the page, click on GPS batteries. In one of the pull-down
buttons, you will find Garmin. Just search for the model you are
looking for (Quest and Quest2 are in there). Price is $25.

I don't work for them or have any connection with them other than a
satisfied customer. Shipping was *REAL FAST*. Got my order in 2 days
from Wyoming to Virginia.

the challenge is usually finding a 3rd party battery,
and THEN -
how to actually open the unit without destroying everything in the process.
I've seen some online videos for iPod battery replacement,
but have not looked - yet - for info on Garmin units as yet...

I had no problem opening the unit, putting it back together, and getting
it to function as it should. I had to make a minor modification to the
battery and the internal case, but my Quest2 is working perfectly.

I should have looked more closely when I went to that website. If I had,
I would not have gotten the battery that I did. I had read somewhere,
the Clie battery was a direct replacement. So I focused on that
battery. What I got was slightly to big, but I was able to squeeze it
in there.

But according to their website, they do have the direct replacement for
the Quest GPS.

One small benefit from my efforts was an extra 200mah of battery capacity.

My quest antenna stop working and the battery was weak. If is was off
the charger for more than one day it would be completely discharged.
By sending it in to be exchanged for another refurnish unit I got a
new battery also at a cost of 99 dollars.

Fortunately the Quest case has very obvious screws holding it together
and comes apart in a straight forward manner. And the battery has a
connector on it so if you get the proper type it's a simple matter to
unplug the old one, plug in the new, and screw the unit back together.
