Hi, I have a NUVI 350 with a 750 on order. I am using VISTA Home
Premium. I have stored the the POI file both in My documents and the
desktop but when I use the POI loader it does not seem to find the
specific file----just the directory. The files were downloaded as Excel
files/ I have the SD card and I am inserting it with the angle cut
going in first on the right hand side as viewed from the display screen.
Is my problem Vista or me (gasp)? I'D like to figure this out before
my new unit arrives.
Any suggestions? Thank you
Hank

the Garmin POI Loader, once started, is pointed at a sub-dir.
It will "walk you thru" all the files that it finds in that sub-dir (that
are appropriate).
After you point it - in the next step it will list a file & ask if you want
to Ignore or load it...

It is asking for the directory. I choose the directory and nothing

happens till I select it to download. Then it says it has downloaded x
number of POIs. Then I disconnect the 350. The 350 then says it has
downloaded x files and do I want to copy then. I say yes but nothing
happens. I guess I am missing something.

is this a 350 bootup ?
sounds like they are copied to a SD card ?
my 260 says something like "extras found on card, do you want to
install..."
I usually say NO - doesn't really matter

ok - what do you expect to happen or see ??

after the yes or no - you should be in the normal menu ?

the "custom POI's" are located.... at least on my 260
where to > extras -> custom POIs -> "whatever the filename is"

I can't see what type of problem you have at your end, and I am not a POI
experted to be able to make wild guess, so I just give the general
information/step which I have done to my Nuvi 680 TWICE so far.
1. I copied all the POIs to a FOLDER on my 8GB SDHC memory card. I guess I
can keep them on HD but since they are small and I can just keep them on the
SDHC card so I won't lose them.
\POI = for example
2. Run POI Loader and tell it the POI is on \POI folder
3. The POI loader will read, install all the available POIs from the folder
to GPS.
4. When you unplug the USB cable the GPS will boot to normal GPS, and it
will tell you that it's updating the newer software (POI) to GPS.
That's it! if you do anything different than the above then it could be
the problem.
