Hi. I'm a longtime lurker who has owned a Legend Cx for almost 2 years.
I have been satisfied with its performance up to now. I use it primarily
while biking or hiking and for navigating around new places when on
vacation. It did a good job of guiding us around northern Italy this
summer, losing lock only in the usual places, narrow streets in towns
and in narrow valleys while walking in the mountains.
However in the past month or so it has started to lose satellite lock in
places where it has never failed in the past. For example yesterday,
during a 1 hr walk of about 5 km through aspen parkland, it reported
that we did 37.4 km. The tracklog looks like the random scribblings of a
2 yr old.
It is even losing lock from time to time when I'm bike riding in flat
countryside on wide open roads.
I'm not using the unit any differently, so I'm at a loss to explain the
recent loss of signal. Any ideas? Do these units just wear out over time?

Although, as with all electronics, parts can just go bad.
That sounds awfully soon but I suppose it could happen.

Hmmm, I've been noticing the same thing for about the last month. My
Magellen Meridian Gold seems to be receiving weaker signals. I took it apart
and looked for any damage around the antenna and found none. A few sats
give a full strength signal, others are very weak. Getting a 3D lock even in
perfectly clear sky view is now becoming difficult.

Atmospheric effects can cause distortion of radio signals like that. Lots
of sunspots (or none at all), high or low pressure, lots of water in the
air (or very little) will all change the reception.
Leave it a couple more months until the weather changes again and see if
it gets worse or better.
Simon.

GPS satellites are not geosynchronous, i.e., they are
"on the move" all the time. It's highly possible that
you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time,
and had no reception for a few moments. -KR4WM
