I've been reading reviews on various Nuvi models, 350, 660, etc. In one
review they were critical of how long it takes the Nuvi to decide to
recalculate a new route if you miss a turn. Apparently it tries several
times to get you back on the original path before giving up and
recalculating an entirely new path.
But another reviewer said it was possible to manually force the Nuvi to
recalculate immediately, but made no mention of how to do that.
Is it possible to easily manually force an immediate route recalculation
when a turn is missed?
Thanks!
Bruce.
Bruce,
With my Nuvi 350 I've taken different routes just to see how it's handled.
Going some 45 mph when intentionally taking a different route, the voice
"recalculating" sounds in a 100 yards or so. The new route instructions
begin in just a few more seconds.
Once, my new route happened to be a dead end. I should have paid attention
because "recalculating" persisted (with no new suggested route) every 10
seconds or so till I turned around.
I haven't tried the "Detour" menu item yet. Perhaps that's what the reviewer
was talking about.

Thanks very much. That sounds better than what the reviewer mentioned.
Perhaps they've improved the software since the review was done.

On my venerable old 2610, if you are navigating a route, you can touch
Menu > Route > Recalculate and recalculate the route from your present
location at any time.
The other choices I have from there are Stop (the route), Edit/Add Vias,
Return to Start, Routing Setup, New (route), Save (route), and Route HOME.
When I'm out for a pleasure ride on my motorcycle, I sometimes get some
distance from home and choose Route HOME, then choose the Shortest
option, and get to see some interesting secondary roads that I'd never
normally take. Of course if I'm running out of time I choose Quickest.
Maybe if they keep improving the software long enough it will get as
good as the software designs they abandoned to get where they are. :>)

The closest option to that on my new c330 is Menu \ Detour, which has
no options. It will find another route from where you are, while still
obeying your preset Avoidances as much as possible.

There is a Stop, of course. But none of those others on mine. To
route HOME, I have to go to Where To \ My Locations \ Go Home.
