The Garmin Nuvi series appears to be a design geared to a different
market. Most of all the reviews are good with the exception of two items;
speech quality and battery concern.
The form factor of the Nuvi series doesn't look like there is ample room
for speakers which will deliver intelligible sound in an automobile and some
reviewers classify the speech as garbled. Is this true?
One reviewer said that if, for some reason, the internal battery dies,
there is no way to replace it (not even by Garmin) and the unit must be
discarded. This sounds ridiculous (not unusual on Usenet posts) but I still
wonder if there is any validity to the comment.
Also, I have a Garmin SP 60C which I use in my car while mounted on a
Garmin bean bag assembly. Can the
Nuvi 350 use the same mount?
Thanks for any information.
Don

The audio quality of spoken directions works for me. (350) Briefly owned an
Lowrance Iway product and as I recall voice quality was about the same. From
what I've read the battery is replaceable by Garmin. (in theory not user
replaceable) Because the Nuvi is fairly new there are not at this time after
market batteries. Some folks think that in a year or so some may appear and
the tech savvy owner may be able to replace the battery. Don't know about
your bean bag mount. I use the Garmin supplied disk that is semi-permanently
mounted to the top of my dashboard. I cover it with a napkin when out of the
car.

I haven't had any problems with the sound quality or volume of the
speech-to-text feature in the Nuvi 350 and can easily adjust the volume so
it is loud enough to hear over the car stereo, assuming "normal" listening
levels.

In my noisy diesel 4Runner I have to listen closely to Nuvi, but since I really
enjoy listening to talking books I run Nuvi through my car radio and it sounds
good.

I am particularly interested in the 350. Is it possible to direct the
audio output of the 350 to the car radio without Bluetooth or some other
built-in Nuvi technology?
