Thinking of acquiring a Nuvi 1340, which seems to have all that I
need (W.Europe maps, lane assist, text-to-speech).

All the reviews I have seen were good, the only negative voice being a
user who found it only used the first 4 characters of a post code
(which in the UK are 6-7 characters), but as no other review
mentioned it, perhaps that was some kind of misunderstanding.

Does the team here know of anything about the Nuvi 1340 that a
prospective owner should know?!

I assume the 'Lifetime map update' option would be available with it.

Perhaps you should be aware that the 1340 does not support 'routes'.

The more advanced Garmin models allow you to modify the route calculated
using any number of 'via points' between the starting point and destination.
Or you can plan your own routes from scratch using MapSource and transfer
them to the unit.

Personally I would not want to be without this facility.

This may be just terminology, but my very basic Garmin Nuvi 250 allows me to
modify
the calculated route with a number of via points. I've never used more than 3
so I don't
know what the limit is.

How do you do that? I have a 350 and supposedly can do only one.

Use Where To? to calculate the route and press Go. Then when it is running
(either real or simulated) go back to menu and select Where To? again and
choose your intermediate place. This time when you press GO it will ask
whether you want to change your destination or add it as a Via Point.
Choose the latter :-)
