Hi
I use the Zumo 550 for my bike with adapter and
external power supply from the bike battery,
no problem.
But if I use it in my car, I use an adapter
whit a sucking cup to fix the adapter on the
windshield of my car and a external power supply
from the car cigarette lighter.
Now in short times, the second adapter is damadged.
Not the fuse inside the plug to the cigarette lighter
but the whole adapter and once garmin changed it a
warranty, but I do not know, how often they will
be so moderate. The fuse is ok. I think it is a
slow blow fuse. So it would not be damaged in
casse of short spikes of voltage.
All other applications what I use in this car cigarette
lighter power supply are working well since years
and also my car tech build in an additional capacitor
or whatever after the first damaged garmin adapter,
to avoid evl. spikes of voltage in case of starting
the car whith the adapter plugged in.
Are there some hints or experiences what to do
in such a case? The adapters and cable are
coming from China. May be the quality is not
sufficiant?
