New Nuvi Software Update Without Map Update

Can I register my new nuvi 255 now and download any updated operating
software *without* downloading any map updates? I want to wait to near
60 days to get any new maps...

first - the 60 days (if that's what it says)
is from when you turn on the GPS and it locks onto the sats...
ie - first time for satellite acquisision

and yes - the updating of firmware is different than loading maps.
The firmware update takes a minute or so -

The map download & update can take several HOURS
since the map itself is about 2GB and is via download or DVD.
