My first automotive GPS, the 1450, arrived and works well. I went to
the My Garmin site to register it, did so, then performed a "software
update." That took around 40 minutes, and when all was done per
instructions, everything was fine. I logged on again, reconnected the
1450, and had ANOTHER "software update" notice! Huh??
I took note of some 1450's software before the update, and the only
thing that "seems" to have changed afterward was the "Text" version,
from 4.10 to 5.40. In any case now, the software version on top of the
screen shows 5.40 (and unfortunately I don't know what it was prior to...)
My question: should I have had another software update notification
after apparently completing a successful one? For those of you who may
have a 1450, is version 5.40 the latest?
Thanks.

That's the one I have.

I'm assuming you're talking about having the 5.40 version and not the
fact that you have a 1450, right? And have you had any issues
downloading updates to maps or unit software? If 5.40 is indeed the
latest version, I wonder why the site tells me I'm due another update.

Yes.

It could be for something like a new vehicle icon, different voice language

or, as I noticed a few days ago, some sort of update (I forget now what it
was) that does not even apply to the 1450. I wouldn't worry about it --
just update the maps as they come available and don't worry about the other
stuff unless you need/want it for some reason.
