oooh. you just made my day! but i won't jump on that 'x' series
until i hear if there's some imposed limit on the size of the microSD
card; e.g. when gigantic cards become available, will they be usable
(as in able to use *all* the memory; not some 90% solution like CNv7
on a 24mb vista/legend).

Garmin has so far followed a strategy of keeping map memory very
tight. I'd be very positively surprised if Garmin changed that
strategy and offered, for example, a GPSMAP 60Cx where you could
plug in a Gigabyte of memory. That would be a complete reversal
of strategy. I believe it when I see it.

until yesterday, they were behind the ball (relative to magellan) with
regard to memory expansion. it seems they really need to do something
to fully compete with the explorist line that has unlimited memory
expansion. this is what people want; why not give it to them? if the
bloody thing is crippled and they keep the huge maps in CNv7, then
i'll have to go elsewhere.

Well, they do offer a 256mp card as an option for both the 60 and 76 Cx
models. They also indicate that they will be selling CN on a micro SD
card. It would seem like CN would need more than 256mb. But, like you
I'm a bit apprehensive about what strategy the marketing people might
be planing. No online manual is available yet.

I would like the larger capacity, brighter display and improved
sensitivity under foliage and in canyons. However, its not likely that
I'd be one of the first to bite.
