OK, so I just received my new Nuvi 670 on Monday. I ordered it online
last Thursday.
It has NorthAmerica NT version 8.0 loaded and now I see, and I checked
at Garmin online after registering it, that they want me to pay $70 for
the new version (2008).
I sure hope they are kidding...
Any suggestions on what I should say to Support tomorrow when I call?
I will also be asking for the DVD with Mapsource and the POI loader,
also hopefully without being charged for them either.
Any comments on prior phone call dealings with Garmin would really be
appreciated.

I fear they are not. I bought a unit one month

was told I would have to pay for the 2008 version.

Wow... that is not a way to keep or expand your customers...
Do you know the exact date that the new North America 2008 (ver.9) was
released? If it was released BEFORE I received my unit I may have more
of an argument tomorrow when I call.

I believe that the release date shown on their web page was July
12th. This new, very UN-friendly policy has been in place for a while
now. It is quite disgusting. If at all possible, and they aren't
cooperative, I would certainly return the unit to the vendor.
Interestingly, I have read other places that some units are shipping
with the new maps, and other folks have said that they do tend to ship
units loaded with new maps for a short period of time before the
software updates are available to the users of previous versions.
They tried to tell me, on the phone today, that the 2008 ver. 9 was
first released YESTERDAY i.e. July 18th....
I know it was at least 2-3 days ago judging by posts on this list...
They were very pleasant but I kept on saying that I just got it!!! Not
even a few days ago... told them even microsoft has a more generous
upgrade policy...
When I mentioned that my "company" had always previously bought Garmin
but that might change now, she took my registration number and said she
would give it to her supervisor and explain...
She said they have been overwhelmed with calls the last couple of
days... I had a 30 hold time....
I am still considering returning it... we shall see...
