I have a Legend and it's serving its purpose but I have trouble seeing
the detail and want a color screen. I also want more precision in
elevations on the tracks.

I can buy the Vista at Amazon for about $240 new, is there a better unit
for about the same money?

I got my GPSMAP 60CSx for $289 after the $50 mail-in-rebate that Garmin is
offering 'till end of the year. Just seach around, also on eBay.

Good luck.

Hey! Good to hear from you. I'm learning a lot from the Legend.

Some questions about the GPSMAP 60CSx:
- Is the back of it the same as the eTrex? That is, will my bike mount work?
- Did you look at the 76CSx as well? If so, what was the deciding factor?
- Where did you buy yours?
- Where did you get the Rebate coupon?

Thanks... Bob

Hi Bob,

I don't think the same mount will work. The 60CSx is definitely biggr than
the Legend.

Yeah, I looked at the 76CSx too, since I am also booting and I was impressed
that the 76CSx is flooting in the water, the 60CSx does not really floot,
but is close ( as far as I heard and understood ) to floot too ! But, I
absolutely don't like the HOLD in my hand of the 76Sx, I always have to bend
my wrist or my big fingers covering up the screen. I like the 60CSx's
buttons on the bottom much better.

I got my 60CSx of eBay from a seller called "Water and Woods" or
"WaterandWoods" ( you can search for the seller ) and the guys name was
Steve !!!! WOW, I am on eBay for the past 8 years or so, but THIS was one
of the best sellers I've ever encountered. Super communication, great price
and absolutely a caring person. If I ever need to buy some other accessories
and GPS stuff, I definitely will contact him first if he has any of the
items I want. I really, really had a great experience with this "Water and
Woods - Guy - Steve" !!! LOL

Went to the Garmin web site and downloaded the Rebate Form as a .pdf !

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tom

IMHO the 60CSx and 76CSx are slightly better than the Vista HCx
and have a somewhat larger screen. Although in use I don't
really notice the difference in screen sizes. There's
probably no significant difference when it comes to
the elevation data. Firmware updates to the HCx MediaTek
chipset may change my opinion.

Currently the HCx has trouble deciding if you are moving
or not in the 1 to 2.1 mph range which results in the
odometer being wrong about the distance traveled if
you move slowly.

The HCx may be a bit better at picking up weak signals
but that may also be causing slightly more erratic
tracking.
