I tried the Microsoft, DeLorme, and Garmin GPS-for-PC packages and up to now
I would say that the Microsoft offering is the coolest one. It will take a
lot longer than this to learn the features of all of them. Garmin is the
heavyweight champ of the real GPS but their PC software just makes for a
jumbo-sized Nuvi and does not work with Windows 7. DeLorme tries hard but
theirs is not as polished as the Microsoft software.

But it is hard to drive and look at a PC so I understand when that
application never really took off. One of those cheapo netbook PC's is
handier in a car than a full-sized 15 inch laptop but then netbook speakers
have no volume so you either neither external speakers or a patch cable to
your vehicle stereo. But if you set your vehicle stereo to Aux Input you
lose the stereo part of it.

All in all, it is a clumsy operation just to have a GPS with a larger
screen. I would not recommend it personally.
