I got a 64mb microSD with my Vista CX. I upgraded to a 512mb micro
SD, now i got oodles of space for maps,
I noticed the 64mb card was formatted with fat 12, so i
experimented for different formats, FAT16 was faster, FAT32 was the
fastest.
I've now formatted my 512mb with FAT32 and notice a marked
improvement when panning around the maps,
REMEMBER FORMATTING WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON CARD, so backup first,
im not responsible for your failures.
that's interesting... I thaught FAT32 wasn't supported - and the
devices would be capped 2Gig.
..or will that still hold?

I bought the 1gb micro sd for my 60CSx not realizing I would not use
half of it. I've got the entire 24k topo national parks in it, only
300mb. Maybe my routes and waypoints will use it up; I'll soon find
out.

Nope, they won't use any of it since they're stored on internal memory
on the main board.
But if you get the CityNavigator maps you'd be able to use the space -
mainly since they cover so much more area than just the National Parks
and selected recreation areas.

Saved track are internal memory too but if you have the "Log Track to
Data Card" option turned on it will use the card. Those are *.gpx
files, not a notoriously efficient or compact format,so they can add up
in time. I had one with about 9,400 trackpoints in it and it was a 845
kb file.
