The situation with MetroGuide versions for EUR and NA was that those
would autoroute on a PC with a GPS-18. The GPS-18 was sold bundled with
MetroGuide (or without if you preferred). And you could buy MetroGuide
on a CD or DVD and it was much cheaper than the comparable City
Navigator mapping for the same areas.
But those cheaper versions of MetroGuide would not upload the
autorouting data to supplemental mapping files though. They would
upload maps but the maps would not autoroute. Some people thought that
MetroGuide would not autoroute but the situation was that it would
autoroute on a PC but would not generate autorouting maps.
Geodude's MetroWhizz was the hack that would let you uploaded maps from
MetroGuide that would work.

At one time in the past there was a third party process or application
called MetroWhizz that would let you convert the normally
non-autorouting MetroGuide maps for Europe and North America to maps
that would autoroute.
I know that worked because I converted some maps for use on a 76Cx and
they worked. I later bought City Navigator and have not used the
MetroGuide maps on a handheld since (some two or three years ago).
Here is the web site for that process:
http://www.geodude.nl/community/content/view/19/36/
That says that the software products there do only North American or
European maps but you may look there or inquire at the forum there and
find a way to do it.
That software was a "hack" of sorts. MetroGuide was for use on a PC
with the GPS 18 RS-232 serial/USB receivers. It was cheaper to buy but
would not upload the data needed for autorouting to supplemental mapping
image files as are used on handhelds and were used in the past on many
dash mount units intended for use in cars.
So MetroWhizz was essentially a hack that let you upload autorouting
maps from a version that was not intended to do that.

I've now ordered City Navigator Australia. I think its probably the better
fit for me in this case.
