This is probably a dumb question but I need to ask it since I'm
unfamiliar with the Nuvi series. I maybe upgrading from a Streetpilot
2610 to a Nuvi 880. With the SP2610, I could run the Mapsource
utility on the PC and create routes by hand and them upload them to
the SP2610 (along with Waypoints, Map Sets, Track Logs, etc.). When
the routes were loaded on the SP2610, I could also add via points to
routes etc. Does anyone know if I can use the Mapsource utility
software to do the same for the Nuvi? It seems like a lot of people
are telling me NOT to upgrade and to keep the SP2610 as the Nuvi
series have been 'dumbed down' with their user interface and feature
sets. In other words, nice new features for the Nuvi but not enough
to out weigh the older models. I don't know personally but I do want
to know if Mapsource can do the same for the Nuvi series as the
Streetpilot series.
Thanks!
my 2720 transferred to my 880 just fine.. I already had CN 2009 on my
computer.. That would be your only worry as the 880 ships with CN 2009 but
no SW for the computer..

Garmin has been dumping so many different models to market yearly, and so
many newer model's with many older useful features removed to replace with
useless junks.
And since Nuvi 880 seems to be the newer model not many people have it, so
you may need to GOOGLE for more detail information.
Now back to the main routing issue, I believe *if* the Nuvi 880 supports
(allows) to transfer the routes from computer to GPS then it should work.
Because MapSource itself doesn't care what Garmin GPS you have.
Years before Garmin started the auto-route feature, I used to use one of
third party map program (either Street or Atlas map) to create the route
then transfer to my old StreetPilot (either V or III+).

I know...Garmin seems to add stupid things like Picture Viewers,
Calculators, and MP3 players...what happened to a just being a
navigation device? It's bad enough we're loaded up with all that
stuff on our cell phones these days. Still wondering if I should give
up the 2610 as it had things like route avoidances and other REAL
navigation related features. Only problem is, the support is now gone
and City Navigator updates will be too! Mapsource was such a usefull
tool so I'm hoping they keep that going.

Comparing the old StreetPilot III vs Nuvi 680, besides the slimmer, using
external memory instead of limited to very expensive 256M DataCard memory,
Garmin has removed so many neat features from StreetPilot III.
I am ok with the Nuvi 680 (especially how it handle the address), but
missing lot of useful features of the old StreetPilot. Also, you should be
ok with the 2610, or I was about to get the 2610 instead of Nuvi, but the
daskboard of my newer van and car don't work well with beanbag.
