I had installed mapsource and City Navigator v.8 on my netbook and the
map tool/mapset creation part was working fine.

However, I tried installing the Trip & Waypoint Manager so that it could
recognize my GPS unit. This didn't seem to work.

However, I cannot seem to create or change mapsets anymore. Clicking on
a map doesn't turn it pink or anything. It also seems as though the
detail of the maps is gone. I tried unlocking City Navigator again, but
that didn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? (I suppose
I could de-install and re-install it, but I thought it might be
something simpler.)

(I was able to download an existing mapset to the storage card for my
unit and that seems to have detailed maps.)

You can only use Mapsource/Citynavigator with Garmin units and not
other programs
