(Sufficient care will avoid them, but generally speaking, people don't

Did you "delete" v8 or uninstall it?

Here is where my memory is a bit hazy.

I had downloaded Ccleaner to try to get some more free disk space.
I *think* what happened was that I was browsing through the uninstall
function in Ccleaner when I noticed v8 there, and knowing that I don't
need an old map anymore, I used the uninstall function of Ccleaner to
uninstall v8. It seemed to uninstall without error.

But then later, using Windows Explorer, I found the folder with v8 files
still in it, so then I deleted that folder.

Well, with MapSource it can be either way. Cuz MapSource is more flexible
<sic> than the normal Aps.

IOW, MapSource shouldn't try so hard to be a perfect program and end up to
be a very buggy and annoying.

MapSetToolKit can be useful for fixing these sorts of problems:
http://sites.google.com/site/cypherman1/

It will list all of the installed mapsets, and lets you uninstall any of
them, which will remove the relevant registry entries.
It also has an option for "Check registry", which should tell you which
maps are causing the problem.
