I upgraded my Nuvi760 yesterday with the 2010 set of maps and along with
the maps came an application called MapInstall. MapInstall asks me to
select sections of the country then uploads maps into the Nuvi. I
thought the original download (almost 2 gig) did that. Am I missing
something here?

There are two stages to the map upgrade process. The first is to download the
maps from the Garmin server onto your computer; the second is to install the
downloaded maps from your computer onto your gps device. Both stages are
rather time consuming.

Okay. So, I'm off on a trip to Ohio and I forget to install the map for
western PA. When I reach the end of the installed map do I fall off the
end of the planet? Does the road suddenly end? Does the Nuvi just laugh
at me?

No, it will revert to the so-called 'Base map' which covers major cities

world-wide, state boundaries, and if you're lucky some major roads.

It appears that MapInstall is for the Apple Mac world..

Wonder if things are radically different for installing map images ?
I mean, if the GPS is going to hold an entire 2GB image,
then why should it matter if the image creation is on a PC or a Mac ?
Lastly, I can't imagine that the Nuvi 760 is any different than my 2xx
series
that can hold the entire USA map image on the 2GB internal memory.
