babel-Honokaope.gpx
That didn't work.
"...babel-Honokaope.gpx" could not be imported.
Not a terribly illuminating message, and it doesn't seem to me that
MapSource should _require_ Garmin-exclusive options to be turned on. It
should import minimal gpx files from other sources.

I'm using Mapsource 6.15.11
Here's a file that won't import--click the GPS link to a hike called
"Mishe Mokwa Trail to Tri Peaks":

I went there, used the GPX link to download mishemokwa.gpx
Then I used gpsbabel using this command line (all on one line, and
watch the spaces, especially no space after -o gpx):
gpsbabel.exe -i gpx -f mishemokwa.gpx -o gpx,garminextensions=1 -F
test.gpx
text.gpx imports in MapSource with no problem, the track ist west of
LA (I don't have detailed maps of that area so I can't tell more).

Holger. Thank you. You are a gentleman and a scholar. And everyone
else. Many many thanks!

I see that one fails to import as is.
Converting to gdb works
gpsbabel -i gpx -f mishemokwa.gpx -o gdb -F mishemokwa.gdb
or passing through gpsbabel with no changes requested works
gpsbabel -i gpx -f mishemokwa.gpx -o gpx -F babel.mishemokwa.gpx
