My Nuvi 255W let me down badly this weekend. I turned it on when needed and
it said it couldn't unlock maps and in fact then said it didn't have any
maps. I haven't been downloading stuff to it, until this happened I didn't
realise even that I could!
I'm now in the process of downloading all the maps, takes several hours, but
my question is, why did this happen?
Will it happen again and leave me stuck in the middle of London again?

I've had maps disappear on my etrex Vista HCx after some really
rough roads on my bicycle. Reseating the microSD card has fixed
the problem. Perhaps you could try that?

My crystal ball says (not me saying) that if it happens once then it's
possible to happen again. It also say it may not be in London but could be
somewhere else.

wondering what maps you have installed on the Garmin - as shown in the TOOLS
screen ?
ie - is UK your home, or did you travel there and are using a map on the SD
Card ?
