Recently replaced our nüvi 660 with a 775 model which has
North-American maps in addition to the European ones and a few other
additional bells and whistles.
Unfortunately, the 775 had intermittent problems. Call to Garmin
support (Germany), and quickly got an RMA and instructions on how to
send back the defective device to receive a new one.
That's when the gotcha happened - when packing the box to send the
device back, we mistakenly included the wrong suction cup clip (the
connector with the ball and socket joint on the back) - the one for
the 660 instead of the 775 one. (Didn't notice they were different)
The new 775 arrived about a week later (pretty quick turnaround time)
and works fine, and we forgot all about it until I wanted to hand down
the 660 (which is still functional) to a family member, and noticed we
had two clips matching the 775 and none for the 660.
This was a month after the exchange operation, but I still called
support in the hope they were able to help (and also to belatedly let
them know they somewhere had a returned 775 box with a mismatched 660
clip inside, ahem).
"So you just need that clip? - No problem, I'll send one to you on
Monday" was their answer. This morning, the Garmin
parcel arrived as promised, containing not only the clip but a
complete suction cup mount (including the clip).
So while the initial experience with a defective unit was of course
less than positive, their handling of the case way exceeded
expectations.
Regards,
Gilles.

I've noticed in videos of aircraft and ships, that Garmin Receivers
are in almost all of them, including Coast Guard helicopters, various
aircraft, boats, and so on.
They really are a *cut above,* although I continue to enjoy my plain
vanilla Magellan Sportracks. My Garmin Oregon 400t with extra maps
loaded for streets is Beyond Expectations in terms of performance and
features. Expensive yes, but worth it IMO. But I'm not hooked on
Garmin. My present inventory, which represents about 1/4 of all the
receivers I have used over the years:
Magellan Sportrack plain vanilla
Magellan Sportrack Map
Garmin 400t with Navtech streets (or tele-atlas)
TomTom One
Magellan 3220
I will guess I've owned about 20 receivers and sold or given away most
of the older models. The =one= I put in my pocket these days is the
400t.
