Why does my nuvi 255W say "keep right (or keep left) on Main St" rather
than TURN right or TURN left on Main St.-- when a right/left turn rather
than just a bear right/left is where the route should go?

usually indicates some kind of signage or split in the road...
or even to make sure to keep you away from (or toward) an exit ramp.

NO, that's not it. Every 90 degree right or left turn is announced with
keep right on or keep left on...

It wouldn't be the first bug in a GPS device's software.

I find that annoying too. Wife owns the Nuvi and a "keep right" on route
X had her turning right. I learned, "keep right" means stay on road
you're on where "turn right" means to turn. They'd do better to keep
quiet ;)
