I just got a Garmin Nuvi 350 yesterday and yes, I did read the manual. I
can't find anything on how to get me back on the road once I do something
different.

Using the GO to a location, it has been OK.

Just driving in the "map" mode, it follows the route and gives proper
location, etc. But, twice I did something out of the ordinary and it was
confused.

The first time I was traveling east and I got to an intersection where a
road came in at a 135 degree angle. I was past the normal path to make a
right turn when I decided to take that road. Once I did, the car icon no
longer followed the road, but I was running parallel to it. It showed me
driving through the wood, across a pond, etc. Making a couple of turns
onto other roads did not correct it. When I decided to have it find a
destination, everything was fine.

Later, I was going down another road and passed some new houses my wife
wanted to see. I made a U turn, went around the houses, then got back on
the road following in the original direction. Again, it as not accurate.

I cannot find anything in the manual to "reset" my location. What am I
missing? Seems to me, there should be some way of re-aligning after a
slight deviation like that.

Does not automatically recalculation routes if you get off the route?
If so, make sure that feature is on. The older Garmin StreetPilots will
do that, either automatically or with optional prompting.

Yes, when in navigation mode. It is only in map mode that it goes off the
road and gets confused. Perhaps it is not doing all the same calculation
functions in that mode?

It seems strange that that would be the case. The receiver calculates a
fix once a second or so and passes it on to the software for plotting
and display. That process should not change much.

I never use the "snap to road" option on my 76Cx so it is not uncommon
when zoomed in to see a track that is parallel to a road vector with
some offset. I've estimated the offset at 30 feet or so at time but I
just consider that it is a combination of the errors in the EPE and the
placement of the map vectors.

You might try reloading the software on that to see if that changes
anything. If that does not change anything a call to support may be
helpful. I don't think what you're seeing is common with the 350. Or
at least it has not been mentioned here.

More experimenting is in order. It happened when I was little off from the
path, such as making a U turn.

Had a different quirk today. My street comes to a "T" in 2/10 of a mile from
my house. Putting in directions to three different places, it told me
correctly to make a left, right, left to get onto the main street heading
west. This afternoon I tried another location (in the same direction), it
told me to go right, left, left adding a bit of distance as well as being
plain illogical.

OTOH, it took me exactly to the place, about 20 miles from my home, that
would have been a little difficult to spot and I was within 3 feet of the
driveway. The people that work there gave my wife directions coming from
the north instead of the south and it would have added five miles to the
trip.
