I just got the Garmin Topo 100K 2009v4 DVD from Amazon, and the damn
thing REFUSES to install anywhere except drive F:, which does not have
enough disk space; I have 3 other partitions with plenty of space, but
it is SO STUPID it doesn't do anything but refuse.

Once again I am totally agast at GARMIN's competance. How can an
international company make such a product? An installer that doesn't
ask where to install - that's high school programming. Windows has
been around for over a decade, this is rediculous (like my spelling -
sorry).

Does anyone know how to get around this? I tried SETUP /? to see if
there were command line args avail, but nothing displays. I tweaked
the reg (/installdir) but that didn't work either. I have mapsource
installed to F: (again, not my choice it just put it there), I assume
it's using that as the path (I changed the mapsource installdir reg
too - no affect).

I had to cut the plastic wrap/case to try the install of course. If I
can't make it work soon I will return it to Amazon and bitch LOUDLY,
as well as (another) scathing letter to Garmin.

FWIW, this is the 4th garmin product I've purchased over the years,
and all have had problems of this sort. A truly shamefull track
record.

SHAME SHAME SHAME GARMIN

I am totally with you on that!! It is disrespectful towards the
consumer and borders on being rude. (or incompetent) I have map
product all over my c drive. They are not even consistent where on c
drive they put the stuff. SHAME.

The explanation for this is quite simple:

Garmin are an 'equal opportunity' employer. The clever employees work at
developing hardware (in order to minimize costly manufacturing errors). The
software programmers get taken to work on the 'short' bus.
