I can't figure out how to make use of this zip code waypoint file:
http://www.waypoint.org/gps2-zip.html .

Is this incorrectly formatted? Does it need to be converted in some way?
The site's main page doesn't seem to explain how to use their files.

Can anyone lay out a step-by-step procedure for uploading and running this
on my Nuvi 350? I have Mapsource up and running as well as an unlocked
version of City Navigator NT v.8 if that helps me.

I don't see the data in any form except the html in the page they are
listed on. They warn that that the page is over 9 MB in size and say
they like to get lists of waypoints in Excel format. Too bad they don't
offer downloads in Excel or some other useful format.

Maybe you could select all the data and save it to a text file, then
convert that to tab or comma delimited file, then import that into a GPS
utility like gpsbabel, GPS Utility, etc.

Here is a place that has a nice collection of third party GPS utilities,
maybe you can figure out something from there:

http://gpsinformation.net/#3rdparty

You can search for a ZIP code on some Garmins by entering that in place
of the city name or in a ZIP field if there is one, have you tried that
yet? You might not need the data from that site.

I do congratulate you on your GPS knowledge and thanks for the reply.

I did save the data in a text file and I thought of converting it to comma
delineated, but thought I'd hold off until I got more information. I'll
look into your suggested site.

As far as I can tell, the Nuvi 350 does not accept zip codes. I have found
an occasion or two where that would have been helpful.

I knew I had read that you can do that somewheres. I just looked and on
page 7 of the nuvi 350 manual it says in the tips that you can search
for a postal code by entering it instead of a city name. And it also
says that not all map data provides postal code searching.

I have tried doing that on my 76Cx with City Navigator and could not get
it to work. If they can't do a postal code search on a nuvi with City
Navigator installed, where the hell would you expect to find it? On
topo or marine mapping?

Yep, it does say that in the manual, but I can't find a way to input zip
codes on the Nuvi. When you go to the City field and try to enter a number
it immediately switches you out to "Search All Cities".

By the way, I've started to make progress on that zip code file. There was a
version that was space delineated that I didn't see before. I saved it from
the browser as an .htm file, upload the .htm file to Excel, which formats it
perfectly, and then re-save it as a .csv file which Garmin's POI Loader
recognizes. I just haven't figured out yet how to get the POI Loader to put
the Labels in my Garmin as well as the Coordinates, so I just get a listing
of coordinates without the zip code label. Frustrating..
