I have a Garmin GPS Maps 60CSx, v. 4.0. I have downloaded City
Navigator North America and Topo Upper east Coast USA. I have put a
SanDisk 2 gb Micro SD card in the unit. Each time I download the maps
it puts them on internal memory and not on the SD card. When I pplug
the unit into my machine running Windows XP pro I can't see maps with
map source software.

There seems to be no option when accessing the Garmin site but to
download the maps directly to the device, Is that right?

How do I choose which map I am using if I am on the trail or in the
city?

Its best to download the map segments (via Mapsource) directly onto
the card rather than doing it through the GPSr because its faster.
Maps do not load into internal memory. The only maps in internal
memory are the built-in ones.

Be aware that CNNA requires a license and will not open on the 60csx
unless the map is unlocked for your particular GPS with the 25
character key that comes with your license. Or, the alternative is to
purchase maps on a card, in which case the license is applied to the
particular card and may be used with any Garmin unit which accepts
microSD cards.

Assuming that all desired maps have been loaded onto a single card via
Mapsource, plug it into the GPSr. Go to the map page. Menu > Setup Map
> Menu > Show All (or whatever you want showing). If you are "showing"
both CNNA and Topo, then only CNNA will display. To view the Topo
maps, Hide CNNA.

        One step at a time.

- When uploading the selected MAP to GPS then you tell it exactly where to
upload to. IOW, you can tell it to upload directly to the GPS' internal
memory, or external memory.

- If you want to have more than one map in either the In/Extrenal memory
then you will have to SELECT more_than_one_map from MapSource

And if you want to upload the WHOLE MAPS then you probably need to upload
to external memory because the internal memory may not big enough for more
than one full map.

- After you have 2 or more map uploaded to the unit or external memory, then
you will have option to chose between the available map.

Please specify exactly where one specifies the desired destination.

I've been struggling with the latest levels of Mapsource and Mapinstall and
neither will let me specify that the map should go to the SD card.
I have to load everything to the internal memory - deleting whatever is there
to make room - then copying to the SD card in MSD mode.

All-in-all I'm not impressed with Garmin software.

Yes, this is what I am struggling with, there are no options on the
new map source software I have to allow you to choose where the
destination for downloads is. After you get done downloading and
getting through the " do you want to replace this map warning" the
software does put the map on internal memory. When you use map setup
to look at the sd card it is blank. I don't know what the the
difference in software is between what Bob and Joel posted and what I
and Bob Martin have but is definitely different.
