Greetings.
I am a newbie user who owns an HP IPAQ rx3715, and recently purchased
Garmin GPS 10 Deluxe package.
It came with Mapsource City Select North America v6.
I installed it on my Notebook, and then installed it on my IPAQ.
I installed North America basemap from the installation CD, and then
proceeded to install the Mapsource package and unlocked it too.
Now using Garmin's Que software on the IPAQ, whenever I try to find an
address, Map points/waypoints, Intersections, Points of Interest, I get
the following message:
"Detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit www.garmin.com
for more information."
I followed the manuals and the installation instructions step by step,
and even removed and re-installed everything, updated all the software
from Garmin's site, and still get the same message.
I sent three emails to Garmin in the last 10 days, filling their contact
form from the support site, without any response, not even an auto
responder.
I will attempt calling them on Monday, maybe that would be the last
resort before attempting to return the product to the dealer.
I am missing something or just misunderstood what I purchased?
I was under the impression that I purchased a complete package for North
America, which is what I was interested in, or do I have to purchase
more software?
If someone can explain this to me, or if an existing GPS 10 user would
tell me what I am missing, it would be really appreciated.
A confused newbie.
Hi There,
I also use a GPS 10 with the Que software on a PPC.
I think the problem lies in the fact that you may not have copied any
detailed CitySelect maps onto your PDA.
In a nutshell, you have to start MapSource on your PC while your ipaq is in
the cradle. Then, select map sections in Mapsource and transfer them to
your device. The basemap won't recognize street-level addresses (detailed
in CitySelect).
Give that a try...
Dan.

Hi Dan,
You are correct.
I found that by calling Garmin's support, not sure if I missed something
in the documentation but I never saw that mentioned anywhere.
After waiting for around 30 minutes on hold with Garmin support, the rep
was so kind to answer this question immediately.
They also solved another minor problem that I had with the unlock keys
for a different product.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
