On my Garmin and Streets and Trips program I use hddd.ddddd °. What is
the generally accepted method for referencing and quoting latitude and
longitude? Also, how do you read them eg. DMS, DM.m?

Thanks

Degrees, minutes and decimals of minutes.
Like 120 degrees 25.4 minutes. This is how it is used among
professional navigators.

Thanks, that doesn't sseem to very accurate, say, compared to 59.3329 N,
18.07057 E ? On my Garmin software, I dont seem to have that option
unless goes by some other name?

Sam,

The format h ddd.ddddd ° has a resolution of ca. 1.1 m.
The format h ddd mm.mmm has a resolution of ca. 1.85 m.
Not much of a difference compared to the position accuracy of a GPS
receiver! 8-)

Size and shape of the Earth (WGS 84)?
Garmin MapSource map sizes?
Garmin GPSmap 276C, GPS 12 MAP and GPS III (PLUS)?

Well, yes and no... Garmin units will compute a position
down to a FOOT -not to say they are that accurate!

But while Garmin units display only h ddd mm.mmm, they
internally compute h ddd mm.mmmm -a 0.185m precision (0.6
feet)... G7ToWin will display Garmin tracks and waypoints
in the full h ddd mm.mmmm precision stored in the units...
