Unlikely to be dead, particularly as the cost of the data
when doing it on a phone isnt that cheap for quite a few.

It may well cripple Garmin and TomTom's markets tho.

Corse the other consideration is just how good the various user interfaces are
too.

I felt that a few years ago with Garmin's lousy customer support. It
used to be spot on, not any more. No doubt, Garmin changed their
internal policies because they knew they would be losing market share.

I'm assuming that the only way to get navigation services from a
cellphone provider is through a premium data service.

I'm not about to pay $100/month to use a GPS device that only works in
my provider's 3G coverage area.
