I bought a Garmin i3 yesterday, used it for the first time and was
more than happy with how it performed.

Since then I have been tinkering around with the unit and trying to
add in the extra databases available.

I've managed to update the software to v3.10 but don't seem to be able
to add the extra databases.

The unit came with a 256MB card installed already, I've downloaded the
Speed camera database from PocketGPSWorld
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/index.php and also the POI database from
MaFT <http://www.maft.co.uk/garmin/download.htm >, got the POI Loader
from Garmin and I've given it a try.

When I tried to load them all at once I got 'not enough memory', when
I separated out the files and tried them separately the Speed Cameras
loaded in fine, but the POIs came back with 'not enough memory' again.

The unit came with the usual UK and major European roads pre-loaded
and also already had a number of POIs programmed in (not sure how
many), unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to find out how much
memory these are occupying.

Is there any way to see the memory usage on the Garmin i3?

Should the pre-loaded maps and POIs be taking up almost all of the
256MB?

At 5.77MB and 1.35 MB for the Speed Camera and POI database
respectively does it seem correct that I'm not able to load them
both??

Thanks for any help offer in advance!

Cheers,

After doing a bit more digging Ithink the answer is that you cannot
write directly to the memory card via the i3 unit. If you try to do
this the data will only be written to the unit itself.

It seems that a card reader/writer is required to access the card
directly.

Details can be found
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=43239 !

As an aside it also appear that the latest version of PoiLoader is
flawed slightly and the recommendation is to stick to v2 for the time
being, which can be found
http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/POILoader_20.exe .

Looks like I'm going to have to get me a card reader and/or adaptor to
sort this out!
