If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
happen to stumble across this Garmin forum -
http://forums.garmin.com
and since it has the Garmin domain name,
thought it would apply to all products...
but it appears to have been just created for the "sports" folks.
Seems weird to have setup that domain name & forum,
but only focus on one aspect of their products...

I don't have any interest (yet) to find out more about the forum. But
about the domain, I can't be able to get a clear picture of what you are
talking about as the NAME I have several web pages with the names of my own
choice, and I don't own no domain.
So if you want to have the name similar to forum.ps56k.com or whatever
name you wish to go then either sign up for a fee or free host then you can
have the name (or whatever you call DOMAIN).

And what are those? See, not anybody can have <anything>.garmin.com as the
"garmin.com" portion is registered to Garmin. If you have a site like say
joel.freehost.com that's a different story as you are getting space at
"freehost.com" and they are making a sub page for you under the "joel"
sub-domain but freehost.com belongs to FreeHost.
(freehost in the above example is just made up for illustrative purposes).
So in this case, https://forums.garmin.com/ is owned and hosted by Garmin as
it is part of their domain.

In your example here, the domain is "ps56k.com". Whomever owns that domain
can make as many sub-domains as they want (forum, forums, pictures, www,
whatever). But someone first has to register the root (that being
"ps56k.com").

not sure what YOU are talking about...
Have you ever actually bought a domain name ?
Domain names are OWNED in reverse order.....
.COM is a high level node - owned by "the internet",
and every domain using that suffix must be "purchased" and "registered"
next level - garmin.com - is owned by, well garmin AND everything "in front"
of that domain.
such as...... xyz.garmin.com or abc.garmin.com
A simple hosting site may "offer" you a hosting name,
like - joel.hosting.com -
but there are merely adding a "pointer" in THEIR domain server
to point to a local IP address of your web hosting server.
This is very different than actually buying a domain name.
It's like adding an apartment number to a building street address,
vs actually getting your own street address.

I just sent the following PM to the Admin.

Hello,
I am writing to see if maybe some more Forums with sub-forums could be
created, Specifically, to coincide with the "Into Sports" forum, maybe an
"On the Road" forum where maybe there would be sub-forums for "Nuvi",
"StreetPilot", "Zumo", etc... to give owners of those devices a place to
discuss them as well. Nuvi specific questions for example, to me at least,
would be "off-topic" in the sections already there.
Thanks
