Is there a way to download the favorites list from
a Garmin c330, edit it, and write the favorites list
back to a different brand of GPS? I tried the Garmin
POI editor- total waste of time. It's only for writing
files TO the c330, not reading files FROM it, unless
I was doing something totally wrong? TIA, -Nunya

GPSBabel can convert most formats to other formats. Save your favorites as
a .gdb or .gpx file and use GPXBabel to convert it to the other brand's
format. It is a free download.

not sure if the Garmin 330 is anything like my Garmin 260...
when I connect my 260 to the USB,
I can see the 260 as a flash drive - d:\

Within that flash drive, I have :
/GPX/current.gpx
that is the file of favs - just copy it to your PC,
and then use something like EasyGPS to edit and save it elsewhere.

No, the C330 will not show up as a drive.

Here's the steps I took in case anyone else
gets in the same position I was in...

1. Download and install "EasyGPS" software. It will
connect to your Garmin c330 and download your favorites
list, and allow you to save it as a Garmin Waypoint file
(in GPX file format).

2. I found a website http://www.poieditor.com/ that looks
like a "junk" site (lots of adds and garbage, but it's not
really. There is a place to click on the website to upload
your GPX file. (Click on Load POI File.)

3. Then click on Save POI file. Choose the format you need
the file to be in (for Tom Tom 6 for PocketPC the chosen
format for my XV6800 Verizon phone, it's OV2.

4. FYI, there are several input and output file formats, so
this website should be useful for more than one brand of GPS.

6. Copy the OV2 file into the folder on your PocketPC that
holds the maps. In my case it was: Storage CardUSA and
Canada 675_1409.

7. Then it only took a few minutes of poking around in the
Tom Tom menu system to browse the resulting file as a POI
file, and save each POI file as a favorite.

I had around 50 personal POI locations, and it took me about
20 minutes of clicking around, but it's a helluva lot better
than scrolling the map, zooming in and out, searching, etc.
for various waypoints and having to type in some identifier,
which would have potentially taken at least a full day for me!

The program "GPSBabel" would not import anything directly from
my Garmin c330. In fact, I couldn't even get it to connect! Plus
I found nothing in the menus that would lead me to believe it is
capable of working with GPX files (Garmin's native file system).

I hope others find this useful. -Nunya
