Even though Garmin has failed to live up to their promise to provide
Macintosh support for Mapsource and related software, Macintosh users
can have full access to their Garmin GPS units, at least for Mac
owners with Intel processors. By running Parallels Desktop for Mac with
a virtual Windows XP machine on my Macintosh Mini I have full use of my
Streetpilot 2610, GPSMAP 60CS, GPSMAP 168 and GPS III+ units. It runs
faster than on my pc laptop. I know it's not the same as running
Mapsource directly on the Mac, but at least I can get rid of my laptop
pc.

Expecting everyone to run Windows on their Mac is not a solution. It
seems easier to just not buy Garmin products, or (unfortunately) start a
class action suit if you made a purchase based on their false promises.

You might look at Unix/Linux utilities as they run natively on Macs.

Why should I look for Unix/Linux utilities? I said that Mapsource,
loading maps and firmware updates worked with Parallels. I was only
providing this information for anyone that was interested. BTW what
Unix utility runs natively on Mac OS X and not through the command line
using the Terminal application? Can it upload my Garmin maps to my GPS
units?
