I just purchased a Garmin Quest and am trying to use it to find a
waypoint. For the life of me, I find no screen to allow me to do this.
I can find addresses, shops, exits, current location..but how do I find
a waypoint so I can geocache???

Can anyone help?

Ed

I don't have the same unit you have, but I have few Garmin Street Pilot =
I
& II and III is the last one. So I can only be able to give you the =
general
information base on those 3 units I have.

You will need to read the manual to find out what yours can and can't =
not
do, and go from there.

1. Enter the STREET ADDRESS where you want to go.

        - If yours software and hardware have Auto-Routing option/feature then =
it
will prompt you turn-by-turn how to get to the destination. The route
         will be hi-lited

        - If the hardware doesn't have Auto-Routing, then you will see a =
STRAIGHT
LINE from where you are at (location of your car) to the destination.=20
You just need to learn to read the ARROW and follow the LINE.

2. Waypoint, with auto-routing you may not need or you can just MOVE the
cursor (pointer) to any point on the map to create/save as waypoint =
then
         ROUTE to it.

        - Auto-routing software, you just select the "ROUTE TOOL" from Mapsource
Menu then select the START (waypoint) and STOP (waypoint) and any in
between, and Mapsource will hi-lite, creates the waypoint. You can =
LOAD
         to you unit .

        - Non-Auto-Routing software, then you will have to select the "ROUTE =
TOOL"
and manually select the location's to add as waypoints, then select =
them
in the order you want. Then load to your unit and you have waypoint.

3. And from Garmin, you go to menu where it keeps the Route/Waypoint =
info.
(FIND option I think) and select the waypoint you want and it should =
work.

Anyway, I only tried this few years ago, only used it few times on older
Garmin with no auto-routing, so I don't remember much to explain in small
detail.

I have a Quest and was waiting to hear the answer. My experience is that
there aren't any waypoints as on the eMap. Yesterday I was reviewing a
bikeway in New Jersey http://www.billcotton.com/MY_rides.htm#Current%20ride .
that Starts in Pleasantville NJ and goes 6 miles to Somers Point NJ. The
Pleasantville end is not completed and I wanted to mark the street I used to
get on the path. I held the OK key and the location comes up. I change the
name to Path.
Now I push the FIND key Once, select MY LOCATION and a list comes up. The
location that I named is on this list. I can route to it.
I love my Quest for bicycling http://www.billcotton.com/quest_on_bicycle.htm
It puts me on the roads with bicycle club's marking in most areas that I
setup routes in. I have 43 save routes loaded now, many over 50 miles long.
With my eMap and its 50 waypoint route limit and 500 waypoint total limit, I
seldom got 50 miles long route and the total waypoint would fill long before
I got 50 routes.
To delete a route on the eMap I had to also delete waypoints. On the Quest,
I delete a route and it is gone.
Hope this helps.

I don't have Quest to know all detail, but from the limited experience I
have with 3 different Garmin, these are what I know.

1. You can create or mark Single_Waypoint with Garmin. Example single
        waypoint

        - L.A Cali

        - Houston TX

        - Penn Florida=09

2. If you want to create Waypoints (with multiple locations) then you =
will
need to use the "Route Tool" from Mapsource to create, then load to the
Garmin. Waypoints (route plan or multiple locations)

        >>>> L.A Cali >>>> Abu. NM >>>> Houston TX >>>>>> K.S MS >>>> Penn FL

...then Garmin will follow the waypoints in the order you setup and load
to Garmin. And that was what I did on my old Garmins
