It has been many years I never care to install the MapSource on my system,
until this morning I installed it to test something.

My system has drive C: to J (and up to P if counting CD drives and DVD
Virtual Drives, and to T: if counting memory card reader drives).

I work with video so I have lot of disk space to store Tegas of video,
DVDs and DVD virtual drives to do all converting, authoring, repairing etc..
and removable drives from my memory card reader.

Anyway, the stupid MapSource didn't give me any option where I want it to
install, first it gave me the message saying "extracting to Web Update"
without saying if the installation is done or not. Just no sight of
installation.

After so many tries, I reboot the system to try again and again. I
finally checked the START and Garmin folder etc. I just reinstalled Windows
7 last months, and only installed Web Update (on drive C:) nothing else.

And this time it installed MapSource and MapInstall on the root of drive
G:. The reason I installed MapInstall (first time and don't know what it's
for) just to find out what has gone wrong, it displayed the installation
progress (didn't ask where to install to).

I have been using Garmin GPS for over a decade, I remember the early
version just installed to drive C: without asking. Some version gave the
option to install to a specific drive (this shitty option ended up with
multiple MapSources, Map Data on many different drives and folders).

I just can't figure out why Garmin just be normal just like the reast of
human.

I am uninstalling all Garmin installed softwares and see if I can
reinstall MapSource to drive C: (again!)

I uninstalled ALL then reinstall MapSource and it still installed to
G:MapSource

I just ran REGEDIT and removed all (I hope I cleaned all of them) sights
of MapSource and will try to reinstall later. I just Google and many has
had the similar problem, and some was years ago.

I will try to read more before installing.

That didn't work. So I ran REGEDIT again. This time I edited the
InstallDir from "G:MapSource" to "C:GarminMapSource" and it works.

Right now my drive c: has

C:Garminxxxx
C:Program Files (x86)Garminxxxx

Pretty similar to last time when I had several versions of MapSources
installed on several different drives and folders (the MAPs too).

Also, this MapSource v6.16.3 I just downloaded from Garmin doesn't have
the basemap like used too.

Garmin has a different program called BaseCamp:
http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/onthetrail/basecamp
Why don't you try this.

I tried BaseCamp, TrainingCenter, and MapInstall to have some Garmin
program to be able to install MapSource. Before that we can just install
MapSource without installing Map Data, and Map Data won't install without
MapSource already installed.

Believe it or not, now I have 3 versions of MapSource installed on
different drives and folder.

1. One installed on C:GarminMapSource (downloaded from Internet)

2. One installed on G:MapSource (downloaded directly from Garmin)

3. One installed on c:program files (x86)GarminMapSource

the 3rd and older version installed from DVD. This one gave the options
to install Map Data to a specific Drive and Folder *not* the MapSource as it
installed to C:Program Files (x86)GarminMapSource without asking.
