I've been considering this, but we have limited broadband capacity
(we're on AT&T 3G service) with only 5 GB allowed per month. Can
anyone with the lifrtime updates tell me approximately how large is a
typical update? ie, if we update 2 or 3 times per year, what can we
expect in the hit on our broadband usage?

I think CNNA is about 1.2 GB

That's if the Lifetime subscriber only downloads directly to a
GPS--latest full coverage CNNANT2011.20 is 1.25GB (or 1,343,291,392
bytes). If the subscriber wants to download to a GPS *and* onto their
PC, then the download would include the latest version of MapSource
too--latest CNNANT2011.20 is 1.70GB (or 1,828,249,600 bytes). Also note
that each newer update has grown in size by about 5% from the previous
version. Another note is that the sizes above do not include the
download overheads--should be relatively small but they still adds up
toward your download limit of 5GB.

Thanks for confirming that I am not that far off.
I didn't realize to could include the latest Mapsource as well.
(although I have heard there are disadvantages to some of the later
versions.
I run 6.15.7 and am quite happy with it. I suppose if I ever switch to
Windows 7 I might have to use a later version)
