I know google maps /nokia maps on phones are automatically updated
free of charge, but you have to pay for Garmin map updates.. and the
phones can do so much more than a stand-alone GPS unit.
Currently I am leaning toward -- Nokia E72 + Nokia Maps (free Nav) +
vlingo (voice input)
Previously I had considered a Garmin 885t. But I think the above is
better.
Any thoughts?
which is better - a hammer or screwdriver ?

Phone may be fine for walking, but it is not my first choice on a trip.
Phones are best for talking to people.

so what's your choice for a walking trip?
I mean, how do you define a "trip" at all?

Me? I don't use GPS for walking, but if I do then GPS is still my choice.
If I don't have GPS and have phone available then Phone would be my choice.

I don't know how other define their trips, but to me TRIP is a long drive.
Since I use GPS for both short and long drive, but I won't mind using
cellphone for local (if mine has GPS available).
