Has anyone tried the Garmin Bluechart maps on a Zumo 550? I'm hoping
to extend the use of my pricey Zumo 550 for marine navigation. I
spoke with a Garmin representative who would neither deny or confirm
it would work. He could only say that some of the detail may be
missing depending on the area but could not be specific. Since the
maps costs $110 and are non-returnable, I'm relunctant to purchase
without some reassurance it will work.
Thanks,
Gary

The only way I know of to test it without actually buying and unlocking
the maps would be to try it with the BlueCharts that come on pre-loaded
SD cards. If you are around marinas some you may be able to find
someone that has one of those cards.
As far as the economics of it all, buying the pre-loaded cards is much
more expensive and you can't get the mapping to use for planning on a PC
that way.

It does work on Zumo and Nüvi, but since this is car GPS, Garmin has
removed the depth plots from showing on the GPS. You only see
countur lins.
If you have a BlueChart DVD or a friend has it, you can test it your self.
Add a new key to MapSource. Instead of adding 25 digit type "DEMO"
as a key. This unlock all map from Garmin on both PC and GPS.
If you transfere maps to the GPS, you can see how it looks, but
the GPS goes into Demo modus and do not get signals from satellite.
To get out of Demo modus, remove "DEMO" key from MapSource, and send
some new maps to the GPS.
