Garmin 850 Nuvi

I've tried several times to get the maps upgraded and it just sits there.
WHat else can I do? I sent help message but won't do much good right
before crirstmas.

Do the othter units (non Garmin). have these same unable to up date issues?

What is anther unit pople would recommend?

You should consider maybe telling us how you're trying to update the unit
and what if anything is displayed on the screen while it appears to not be
doing anything.

I'm trying to update the map. I install all the things from Garmin
Webupdtater and and all goes fine but when it's the final thing which is
to transfer the map the page just say checking compatibility and I can
let it sit like that until my patience give way.

what exactly are you doing,
or attempting in tryinig to update your GPS ?

1 - The maps are already installed,
and are NOT auto-updated just for the fun of it.

They are ONLY updated once after registering at the Garmin site,
so that the GPS you have in hand will have the latest map -
regardless of how long it was sitting on the shelf.

2 - How have you tried updating your GPS after connecting via USB ?

Did you use the Garmin Webupdater program ?

Also - if you plug your GPS into your computer USB,
can you see it as a flash drive ?
This would confirm the USB connection is probably working.
