If you check out the interactive map viewer via this page:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=253&pID=6299#coverageTab

...you will find that the map coverage of Malta is very limited -
basically a few straight lines for the main road on the island - no
detail. So don't bother.

Probably downloading an image from Google Earth will be more relevant.

I notice that Malta is shown as the off the edge of the map tiles. I
think this means it can viewed in Mapsource, but not transferred to the
GPS At least that seems to be the case with Metroguide v9. So I'll
second the don't bother.

OpenStreetMap seems to have pretty good maps of Malta, with loads of
roads shown. http://openstreetmap.org/
See here for instructions for loading on a Garmin:

Well spotted. It seems strange that they've extended the Sicily map
tile to include Gozo (but with no roads), but left off Malta. Also
there is a tile nearby that stretches down to the smaller island of
Lampedusa; which has full road coverage. Presumably all based on
availability of relevant government mapping.

OSM can be compiled into Garmin maps, have a look at
