For the most part version doesn't matter. It is the BLUETOOTH
PROFILES that matter.
My old phone (with Verizon) was an LG VX8100. The phone supported
HANDS FREE and thwt's about all. I couls Pair with my 660 and use
the phone through the 660, but my contact list stayed in the phone.
When I got a new VERIZON LG VX8350. I looked at the PROFILES it
used. Among others was Object PUSH. When I paired my new phone with
the Nuvi 660 the first time (and all other times) after pairing, the
NUVI sent a PBAB request to my phone. The phone asked me if I wanted
to answer the request. I said yes, and then whoosh, my contract list
was sucked up by the NUVI.
It's all about the BLUETOOTH PROFILES.
My new Toyota Camry requires Hands Free and OBEX (Object PUSH)
PROFILES. However, the phone book transfer is at a lower OBEX level,
so I needed to manually send my phonebook to the Camry.
It's all about the BLUETOOTH PROFILES.
BLUETOOTH PROFILES can set you FREE...

GCM vs. CMDA makes no difference (re: bluetooth connection between devices).
The list on the Garmin site is just those phones they have tested.
What does make a difference is what Bluetooth profile both the phone and/or
accessory (in this case the Garmin unit) support. Which profile they both
support will determine which features will or won't work (EG: just phone
call/answer/end support, on screen callerID, download of phonebook, etc...)
