I recently purchased a GPSMap 76CSx and am quite pleased with it as a
handheld unit. Now I'd like to mount it in my vehicles but can't get enough
information about what mounts are available.
The Garmin site displays several types of mounts, but no detail at all about
how they fasten to the "dash" or what size footprint they require. In
addition, the pictures are so small, dark and single POV that any detail is
indiscernible.
This unit is too tall to use any sort of suction mount on the glass, as it
would obstruct the vision which is illegal in some locales. I need something
that would fasten somehow (velcro?) to the plastic sloping console panel; my
vehicles don't have airbags to worry about.
Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

Agreed. I had the beanbag (still do actually) and it was ok. But when
SWMBO got a new car and it wouldn't sit nicely on the dash, we got one
of those. I haven't used the beanbag since. Great mount.

Assuming you stick that thing to the windshield, it's not legal in
Minnesota, and probably other US states. Of course, the beanbag's
probably not legal either.

ok, what about the units that are mounted on the dashboard sticking up
in front of the windshield? They illegal?
Would the state prefer people look down to navigate thereby taking their
eyes totally off the road?
Sounds pretty moronic, although probably true knowing how government
idiots function.
I use my suction mount where ever we go, which is pretty much in the
Eastern states, although I have used it in Alaska and Hawaii no problem.
Sounds like a challengeable (and winable) law to me.
Know anyone who's been dinged for it?
