Ok - I have been told that the Rino 530HCx's GPS' unit is an
76CSx.
If that is true then maybe you guys with the 76CSx might be able to
help me out.
Have you had problems with freezing/shutdowns with your 76CSx when
using a microSD card? but not freezing/shutdowns without the mem
cards.
I'm using K-Data 8gb microSDHC cards - thinking the HC makes em
more reliable, and that was all I could find anyway (c:
Now - it is not sure if it is the cards - just another trouble
shooting thing Garmin wants me to try as I now have had 4 seperate
Rin0 530HCx's that will freeze/shutdown right around the 2 1/2 hour
mark. They have not tested the 2 I sent back already - and it doesn;t
sound like they are going to.
I tried the unit without the additional maps thinking there might
be some bad segments in the maps - but they still froze/shutdown.
(I'm thinking that they are freezing rather than shutting down as a
few of the times it looked like the CRT burn in of the old days - a
very very faint image on the screen, maybe!)

Thanks!!

Nope.

I've had the same 2GB SD card in my 76CSx since shortly after I got it
and during several years of use have never had any problems of that
sort. Or any problems of any other sort, now that I think about it.

Could it possibly be the size of the card?
(i.e. can the unit properly address 8GB?)
I run 2GB & 4GB cards in my 76CSx--no problem
even left the unit on for a 5 hr. plane flight to watch the track

It's supposed to.

According to the revision history, the 60C(S)x and 76C(S)x supported "SD
version 2" (which is SD-HC) as of firmware revision 3.20.

This assumes that your card is a real SD-HC card. There used to be a
number of large-capacity cards on the market that didn't correctly
implement the standard.

I've been using an 8GB SanDisk microSDHC card in my 76CSx since I
upgraded it to the latest firmware several months ago. Prior to
that, 2GB was the maximum it would work with.

I've had no isues whatsoever. I'll often have it running for
periods of 8 to 12 hours logging tracks to the card. I do that
as an active contributor to openstreetmap.org mapping project.
