Could anyone with any experience of Memory
Map / Anquet software and a
mapping GPS unit (particularly the Garmin
GPSMAP 60Csx) enlighten me
about the following.

Can you download the topo maps from Memory
Map or Anquet to the GPS unit
itself, or is it just routes and waypoints
that get downloaded? I know
that Garmin have there own version of UK topo
maps but I have heard that
the level of detail is not as great as the OS
data. I am primarily
interested in using the GPS for walking
trips.

Thanks,
BraileTrail

Can't comment about Memory map or Anquet as I use
Fugawi with Topo mapping. (GPSMap 60csx)
I find the Garmin Topo maps excellent for walking and
very accurate too, the path coverage is really good.
When you get stumped by paths washed away by rivers you can
then just punch in your destination and get autorouted down
country lanes.

You can't download any mapping other than that from Garmin; the Garmin maps
are vector based, whereas MM and Anquet are bitmap based and therefore huge.

Topo UK is excellent. No, it's not OS mapping, but the ability to transfer
POI's, routes and tracks from mapping software will help you place and
feature not covered by topo, like buildings. Topo is as good as it gets,
really, and that's pretty much excellent.
