Most of you know about the diagnostic screen you can reach by holding down
the [ENTER] button while powering up, but I've never read anyone mentioning
the fun and seemingly useful screen diagnostics.

After you have powered up in diagnostics mode press the [QUIT] (page)
button twice. You should see a white screen with an X from corner to
corner. Press the [QUIT] button again and you get more color screen-test
modes for spotting any stuck pixels. 5 times and you get an all-white
screen. You can still use the [Power/Backlight] key to adjust the backlight
level --- off, your preset level, and full. Just like it normally works.
Use the white screen for an emergency flashlight or reading light, use the
red screen to help preserve night-vision for star-parties. If you adjust
the brightness level low it looks like it would be very effective for this.
Full brightness in red or yellow at night might work as an attention-getter
in an emergency. Watch the psychedelic-boxes screen for a slow and tedious
screensaver?

I'm using eTrex Legend Cx firmware v3.40, in case that might make a
difference.

Has anyone found other fun and non-risky undocumented features?

I just thought of a fun use for this for night geocaches. Print up a clue
that can only be read by one of the colors of light. The same way those
kids' "secret messages" are printed, where different colored images are all
printed together but only one of them shows up better when using the right
colored viewing glasses or cellophane over it. Such as, print the important
message in yellow so you have to use the blue test-screen to read it. Or
more devious, print more than one clue in various colors so each important
bit has to be read by a different color light in the right order of colors.
